Traffic in and around Manatee County continues to get worse and worse. Unfortunately, the County has continued to plan from behind always being reactive instead of proactive. I have a plan that will allow us to be forward thinking to get ahead of our traffic problems and continue smart growth that will finally pay for the critical infrastructure required.
It's no secret, our infrastructure is severely outdated. As a result, we see sewage spills time and time again, roads that need updating and other issues that continue to cost us money as we put bandaids on our problems only to create larger problems. Like traffic, we have to be forward thinking and plan well ahead. An investment today will help us far into the future while reducing costs.
Red tide and continued beach closures plaque our community and it's only getting worse. If we don't take measures to make major improvements, we will all feel the effects on every scale including economic and loss of enjoyment of life. Improving and protecting our overall water quality is a major priority. Tackling this issue will require a team effort not only from the county but from experts outside the county to help us become a leader for all others to follow.
I will make sure that our Sheriff has all the tools and resources needed ensuring our community is protected, keeping us safe, as well as the men and women serving our community. Further, our public safety officials and personnel including EMS and paramedics also need appropriate income and resources to do their job to be able to live within our community. Growth is outpacing their resources and they need a voice and help to accomplish their mission. Lastly, ensuring the safety and well-being of our community is top priority. I will be that voice.
I am fiscally conservative and as a financial advisor, I believe in a balanced budget. Further, I do not believe in over spending. I will help trim our budget while working to ensure our resources are allocated in the best way possible. We need to ensure growth is paying for itself and that our capital improvements are being paid from the right resources and not taking away from other needed resources. Matt will insure our public safety is his top priority.
